Authentic Italian Sausage And Peppers Recipe : Grilled Sausage and Peppers Sandwich

#SausageAndPeppersRecipe #authenticItalian
Hello today I will show you how to make Italian Sausage and Peppers Sandwich Recipe. This simple meal is so delicious you should try it.
What you will need :
Italian Sausage ( Sweet or Hot)
Bell Pepper
Onion
1/4 Cup Oil
Oregano to taste
Salt & Pepper to taste
I add garlic to the bread with a little bit of olive oil for flavoring.

Prep:
Cut up Peppers into strips
Cut Up Onion into strips
Set out the Sausage to come up to room temp
Preheat your grill

Grilling:
I used a gas grill but you can also use a coal fired grill for this cook

Grill sausages on top rack so they will not burn, the fat in the sausage can cause flare ups so check on them often. The sausage will cook for about 15-20 mins depending on conditions but remember to always cook to temperature and not by time. Cooking Temp for Pork Sausage is 160f/ 71c.
Grill the vegetables in a grilling basket to prevent them from falling through the grates. On this cook I used the Essentialware 10″ x 14 3/8″ Non Stick Reusable Grill Basket. This basket is safe for use up to 550f/287c. You can also use a stainless steel grill basket for this. I have one of those as well and it works great too. The veggies should cook for about 10 mins and since these are safe to eat at any temp you can cook them to your desired doneness. I like the peppers and onion to have a bit of char on them but not completely burned. Keep turning the vegetables to get an even cook.
When everything is finished remove from the grill and allow to cool for about 5 mins.

Serving:
Use a fresh loaf of Italian bread cut down the middle but not all the way through. I like a little olive oil on the inside of the bread and if you have some roasted garlic available that is also a great addition. Place the sausage in the bread first and allow the juices to be soaked in. Place the peppers and onions over the top so you get some in every bite.

Variations:
There are several variations you can try for this recipe, I have listed a few here below:
-Use spicy hot sausage to heat up the dish
-All Provolone cheese to the inside of the bread before building the sandwich
-Add Crushed red pepper flakes to the veggies after grilling

These are just a few. Let me know if there is something traditional that you like to put on this sandwich. Thanks for watching!
