The Whiskey Crusaders review Aperol (Bitter) Liqueur which comes in at 22 proof. Aperol is bright orange in color made with bitter and sweet oranges, herbs, and roots. It has always been the same recipe. These herbs and spices include gentian, rhubarb, and cinchona, the rest are secret. It is the Italian version of the French slang for aperitif. It is from Italy and founded in 1919 and is an aperitif. It took 7 years of work by Luigi & Silvio Barbieri who inherited a liquor company from their father in 1912 to make it. Became very popular after WWI with young Italians. In the 1950’s the Aperol Spritz was invented which is fill a wine glass with ice 3 parts prosecco, 2 parts Aperol, a splash of soda, with a slice of orange in it. First TV commercials featuring it on a street car as well. In 2000s was bought by Campari and went on international advertising blitz in fashion, media, lifestyle all over Italy and the world.
