The 100 Point Scoring System (from www.robertparker.com):
96-100: An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume.
90 – 95: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.
80 – 89: A barely above average to very good wine displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as character with no noticeable flaws.
70 – 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine.
60 – 69: A below-average wine containing noticeable deficiencies, such as excessive acidity and/or tannin, an absence of flavor or possibly dirty aromas or flavors.
50 – 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable.

I know that most people don’t care about wine as much as I do – and that’s probably a good thing. When I drink wine I want to experience something special and I don’t buy wine at Lidl but many people do. Lidl operates over 11,550 stores in more than 30 countries and employs more than 376,000 people. The “secret” to their success is that they sell decent products at very low prices which is great for consumers, that aren’t too picky and or have a limited shopping budget.
Wine suppliers however that sell to the discounters are generally under a lot of pressure, having to fulfill very high requirements to be listed in the chains. They still do it as once you are listed at Lidl you get immediate access to a very wide distribution network and you start selling tens of thousands of bottles very quickly. The amount of wine that is needed to stock all shops in one market also means that Lidl cannot work with small to medium-sized wineries and instead mainly works with huge bottlers and wineries that can supply at least a hundred thousand bottles of the same wine.
The quality at Lidl has been improving over the decades but I haven’t had wines from Lidl that I wanted to drink over dinner… But maybe that changes today. My team has bought 8 wines and spent 50 € on those wines.

  1. I’ve never seen wine depress a man this much. Don’t do this to yourself Konstantin 🥲

  2. Blind tasting bottles under $10 is brutal. There is just the hope that it tastes like what it says it is and it is not flawed. That's all I can hope for and if it drinks well, that is a bonus.

  3. Baum knew ahead these were Lidl wines. Leon, next time let’s see the ratings before disclosing where you bought them.

  4. As Argentinian I'm happy to see a Kaiken wine there (solid winery overall), but they should have picked something from Chile too they make some pretty good Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc for very affordable prices. Cheers!

  5. Gosh… the elitism… Poor Kosta, forced to drink those terrible wines so "we", whomever we are, don't have to do so.

Don't put such a sour face, Mr Baum, sometimes 70 something will suffice.

And, most importantly, as long as isn't bought on credit…

  6. I really enjoy your videos and look forward to them every week! This one, however, was depressing

  7. The sort of wines that are served at events for non profit organizations and are often donated. That’s when I ask for a Heineken 🍺 😂

  8. I do woodworking and a favorite wood of mine is quarter sawn white oak. I find chipped wines taste like they have oak sawdust and sap in them, a taste that is unbalanced and overwhelming, like chewing twigs.

  9. You didn’t look like you were enjoying yourself. If you want to discuss cheap wines, get your team to offer a selection of good value €10 wine to inform the masses! But I appreciate your reasoning and as always thanks for posting 😊

  10. Next time you do a cheap wine tasting, add in one really high-end bottle so you have a surprise to look forward to. Plus it would be interesting to see whether the high-end wine tastes even better than it normally would next to the supermarket wine.

  11. Would hve been nice to have the Markus Molitor Edition Wines from Lidl in the Blind Tasting. Starten from 5.99€ on

  12. I wonder if u have some wine about 5-6 euros and u really drink those for the evening for example. Do u have any if these cheaper but really fine wines?

  13. Hi Konstantin! First of all, let me commend you for you resilience in keeping the tasting through all 8 wines :).
I actually bought a sparkling white wine in Portuguese Lidl the other day (for mimosas) and I totally agree with what you say – BORING!!!! Not even the orange juice made it minimally fun. Not to repeat…

  14. There's nothing in this video about Lidl-like wines that was not known before, but it was so entertaining to watch Konstantin's bravery in figuring them all out. 😀

  15. Can you review aldi and Lidl’s “premium” wines in the €10+ bracket? Some of them are surprisingly good.

  16. I would like to invite you at Weinland – Sibiu(Hermanstadt) in Transylvania next year to really taste our wines. No vampires or ghosts, though. 🙃 Cheers! 🥂Daniel Duica, WSET Certified Wine Educator.

  17. These videos are fun and obviously quite popular. I do, however, always wonder if instead of sampling new world, Italian, Spanish, and French wines you can get at German discount supermarkets what it would like like if you did a series of 10eur or less wines from Italian, Spanish, French supermarkets (purchased from supermarkets in those countries and not in Germany). 🍇 🍾

  18. As the „Weinmensch“ at an Edeka-group, this was one of the most entertaining videos of you so far. I laughed out loud quite some times! 😂

Your summary was what I tell my customers all the time, you get what you pay for.

I love to guess along with you and was right at 5 wines.

The SB at the start was a real wtf moment… 😂 Due to your sensations, I was at Chardonnay aswell.

    Keep up this format!

  19. I normally enjoy your content also on affordable wine, but this video didn’t really resonate with me. To me it was overly depressive and negative, and lacked the charm and directness from your similar Aldi review or your more pricy “Is Lidl Wine Good” .

I think in general you should review more affordable wines in the 10€ level, maybe 8 wines for 50€ is simply to limited. I think supermarkets is an interesting topic because of the availability for many viewers and because many people buy wine in supermarkets, so keep up helping us finding the best deals! 😊

  20. Last October I bought wine at a Paris Lidl, in the 11e, my first purchase of anything in France. I could probably pull out the picture of what I thought would a decent wine at for US standards a very low price. A Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Beaune. It was laughable; indeed I did laugh at the glass when I opened it in the apartment. So thanks Lidl, for making me laugh.

  21. I think this video is a waste of Konstantin's considerable talents. He needs wines that spur his emotional connection, and these wines give K no inspiration.

  22. Lidl have the Agramont at 90 points and the Chianti at 92 on their websites, i have always felt they were over rating their wines, now have better feel for how much. its always good to get a second opinion and also see something here i have actually drunk, I have had a few bottles of the Agramont and it does the job.

  23. How about, instead of torturing yourself with those really uninspired wines, you set a better challenge for your team? Say, have them pick 4 very well regarded labels at around €40-50, and then find out good contenders for €10-15? I'd love to see if you could sort out all four matchups in terms of price, and if such great bargains exist in Europe.

  25. We don't have a Lidl; this channel normally gives you the tools to widen your repertoire. It's the first time I was not entertained

  26. I love your channel. This video wasn't your best. It felt like someone was forcing you to do it. I think the word you said most often in this video was "boring." The most interesting part was the NORDVPN commercial. Please make more videos with wines that have a chance of your liking them. For your sake and for your viewers' sake. To answer your question, no, I haven't bought wine at Lidl, and this video doesn't encourage me to start.

  27. Lydl serves a purpose as all supermarkets do but what worries me is that young people drink this and are turned off wine for life. No wonder wine sales are down world wide and kids are drinking cocktails and sweet alco pops. I don’t think cheap wine was this bad 40 years ago…. It probably was.

  28. Wow you guys are really elitist and out of touch. It's not about "not caring about exciting wine" it's about "not having the money to spend an entire weeks groceries worth on a single bottle of fermented grape juice".

  29. Chianti Riservas are usually very low quality, it is completely different from Chianti Classico Riserva which can be at the level of Brunello. While the Kaiken costs almost 15 euro, so not that cheap.

  30. Servus Konstantin aus Tschechien.
    In Tschechien produziert man viele
Weine. Ich habe eine Idee, dass du auch tschechische Weine probieren kannst. Mein Tip für beste tschechische Weingüter: Horák(Rosé oder rot), Weingut Baloun, Lobkowicz.
    Viele Grüße aus Prag
    Jakub

  31. I'm not familiar with Lidl………..wondering what the equivalent would be here in CA(los angeles). BevMo ?………At Trader Joes there are some serious Bordeaux values in the $10-15 range, and even a few under $10. Not exceptional wines, but very correct for the region💁‍♂……………….and, there's a lot of garbage in there as well 🤷‍♂

  32. Interesting but no surprises. Lidl is not the best place to buy decent wines. That said they actually have a good very reasonably priced ribera del duero crianza i. I bought some 2016 of this wine some years ago. I can't remember the name but I think they still have it. Not 2016 though.

  33. For some reason other than the fact that its total off topic. ld4all is still a live up and running website from like the 1990s. anyhow, great wine

  34. Long-time viewer, first time commenting. Thank you for your videos, I've really enjoyed them over the years. I would love to see more videos on how to pick out a wine to age. Especially how that my differ for say 10 vs 20 vs 30 years.

  35. Unfortunately some like vivino for me is not working. I have Samsung smartphone and there i some add in camera which is directly connected to vivino. This like for more easy buying wines in shop. But after few test i am clearly understood for myself about most people on this vivino site it is just regular alco users from europe and maybe some other countries. They know nothing about pure wines. They just like brands and taste of regular alcohol drinks. So i wish you good luck with all this. I feel like i never return to this global euro market.

Maybe from a thousands wines on market you can find 10 for you tests which is not bad. But totally it is just wasting of time all this ratings on big sites like vivino and maybe other similar companies also.

  36. Kaiken is always "shining" in those kinds of tastings. Los Chacayes is hallowed ground in Mendoza, but they make accessible stuff anywhere.
I learned not to search for anything in this price point outside of Argentina, Chile, Douro, Alentejo, Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Sometimes Cotes du Rhone can deliver there, but not frequently.
Oh, and Carrau in Uruguay do a nice and really cheap Tannat, which is a small miracle.

  37. I find on average Aldi wines are far easier to hide good or hidden gem wines. And the price difference isn’t really there. Lidl, especially in the past year, I felt their quality has sunk a lot. Ultimately if I have to test 5 bottles to find one good one, I’ll stop taking chances and just explore Aldi wines instead for the everyday wine
