Prince Edward Island’s chief public health officer Dr. Heather Morrison provided an update on COVID-19 in the province on Thursday, formally announcing that a second case of the virus had been reported in the province.
Morrison stressed the importance of continuing social distancing practices, saying it would be crucial to limit the province from seeing what places like Italy have and seen in recent days.
She also clarified the province’s stance on liquor stores after islanders scrambled on Wednesday and Thursday to stockpile alcohol and cannabis. A day prior, Morrison had advised non-essential services would need to close by 2 p.m. AT and that liquor and cannabis stores fell under this category, resulting in people lining up despite social distancing measures to stock up. Morrison said on Thursday that they would be releasing policies surrounding pick up, delivery and possibly drive-thru options for these types of stores and apologized for the miscommunication.
