    One quart tomatoes, one and one-half quarts hot water, two tablespoons sugar, two teaspoons salt, eight cloves, eight whole black peppers, two tablespoons butter, one tablespoon chopped onions, three tablespoons flour. Put butter in frying pan, when it bubbles, add onion and fry five minutes, then add flour,
    mix well and stir into soup. Cook slowly fifteen minutes. Strain and serve hot
