  1. Italians are great people. Communication is important though, as talking and hand movements while doing it are engrained in Italian DNA lol

  2. Frühschoppen (German pronunciation: [ˈfʁyːʃɔpm̩], meaning: an alcoholic drink before midday in company) is the German and Austrian tradition of meeting up at a pub, inn, or tavern in the late morning, usually on Sundays. The specific customs vary from region to region. Frühschoppen is often a kind of brunch, but does not necessarily involve food. Frühschoppen is also often held at fun fairs, the most famous being Oktoberfest or Cannstatter Volksfest or before going to the stadion.

In Lower Bavaria and most of Upper Bavaria, Frühschoppen is understood to be a specific kind of brunch consisting of Weisswurst, sweet mustard, pretzels, and Weissbier (an unfiltered wheat beer). The Bavarian Frühschoppen began in rural areas and has originally taken place on Sundays in a tavern at the regulars' table (Stammtisch). During Frühschoppen, folk may discuss everyday life and politics. In the corner of the tavern or festival tent (Festzelt) there is typically a band playing Volksmusik. (Nowadays some places have pop, rock, and jazz bands.)

In many other regions of Germany, Frühschoppen is understood more generally to be a gathering in a pub on Sunday morning, traditionally held after church service. This usually includes the consumption of alcoholic beverages, but not necessarily that of a meal. With the decline of church attendance in Germany this tradition has become somewhat less common, but is still held up in many places, especially in rural areas.

  3. Dear Conner,I am absolutely stunned by your tours through all those cities! One could look at Lindau and Bregenz together if you happen to be there, perhaps the shore of the big lake reflects a bit of an ocean feeling you might be missing.like your spiritual approach!

  4. Hello Conner,
nice walk, but I missed the famous view of the Arena di Verona Roman amphitheater.
    Whats the next ?
wish you a nice trip again.
    Greetings from Germany

  5. Dixitque Deus: Fiat lux. Et facta est lux. ) … sorry, in my german Abitur Exam Don Bosco School i get " little Latinum" 😉

  6. In the past all the buildings in Verona were frescoed, it was called Urbs Picta (the painted city). Today it is possible to see the few remaining frescoes at the Case Mazzanti in Piazza delle Erbe.

  7. 7:46 the building on the top of the hill was an Austrian military fort built in 1830s (Verona was one of the fortresses of the Austrian Quadrilatero), today it is a sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes.

11:44 the second oldest high school gymnasium in Italy (it was inaugurated in 1804)

Duomo (from Latin domus, house) is the main church of a city. Cathedral (from Latin Cathedra – chair/trone) is where the bishop's Cathedra is. Usually the Duomo is also a Cathedral, but not always, for example the Duomo of Monza is not a Cathedral. It's the main church of Monza, but Monza is not a episcopal seat. The correct name of Duomo di Verona is Cattedrale di Santa Maria Matricolare. Verona has also 2 Basilicas (Basilica di San Zeno and Basilica di Sant'Anastasia). Basilica from Greek "basileus+oikos" that means house of the kings, is a church of particular importance and artistic value. Verona was the papal seat for a short period, then the Veronese grew tired of the Pope in the city and chased him away.

In origin Osteria only sell wine, people went to Osteria to drink wine, often bringing food from home. They were more or less the same thing as a pub, with wine instead of beer. Then the Osti (you may understand this word, because it has the same origin of Host), began to also sell food, today they're basically restaraunts twhich have kept the old nomenclature and no, they're no always cheaper than restaurants. For example the Osteria Francescana in Modena is a 3 Michelin stars restaurant elected best restaurant in the world more than once, and it's not cheap (the tasting menu costs more than 300 euros per person, wine not included).

Duomo of Verona and Duomo of Firenze are in two completely different architectural styles. The Duomo di Verona is Romanesque (and older than the Duomo of Firenze), the Duomo of Firenze is Gothic/Neogothic/Renaissance.

P.S. All the red stone you see is the Red Marble of Verona, it's a limestone quarried in the mountains north of the city.
